Ravenshaw University Student Honored with State Innovation Award

Debiprasad Mishra, a third-year undergraduate student at Ravenshaw University, achieved a significant milestone on Saturday. He received the prestigious state-level innovation award for his groundbreaking project titled 'Dharohar'. This initiative focuses on revolutionizing Odisha's traditional handloom and handicraft industry through modern technology.

Recognition and Reward

Higher Education Minister Suryabanshi Suraj personally presented the award to Mishra. The honor included a substantial cash prize of Rs 5 lakh. This recognition highlights the growing importance of student-led innovations in addressing real-world challenges.

The Dharohar Project: Blockchain for Authenticity

Mishra's project proposes an innovative solution using blockchain technology. The core idea ensures every handloom product receives proper authentication. Artisans gain fair recognition for their work through this transparent system.

The student explained his vision clearly. "Dharohar establishes a scalable, export-ready marketplace with ethical governance," Mishra stated. "It protects our cultural heritage while driving sustainable income for rural creators."

Direct Artisan-to-Customer Model

The project features an e-commerce website operating on a direct artisan-to-customer framework. This approach eliminates middlemen entirely. Rural creators connect directly with global markets through the platform.

"Our platform enables rural artisans to access international customers without intermediaries," Mishra emphasized. Faculty member Manish Roy provided crucial mentorship throughout the project's development.

Other Academic Events in Odisha

Meanwhile, Fakir Mohan University in Balasore recently hosted a significant academic gathering. The Department of Geology organized a two-day international conference on 'Recent Advances in Geochemistry'.

Eminent geoscientists, academics, researchers, and industry experts participated actively. Speakers emphasized the critical role of geochemical research. They highlighted its importance for understanding Earth systems and ensuring resource sustainability.
