MP Government Colleges to Launch Certificate Courses in 13 Indian Languages

Government colleges in Madhya Pradesh are preparing to introduce certificate courses in Indian languages. This initiative marks a significant step toward promoting linguistic diversity and cultural understanding among students across the state.

Initiative Details and Implementation Plan

The state government will roll out the program in state-run autonomous colleges and Prime Minister Colleges of Excellence. Officials have already started preparations for syllabus design and implementation.

The Commissioner of Higher Education recently chaired a meeting where authorities made this decision. During the meeting, they resolved that selected colleges would receive assignments to teach specific Indian languages.

Languages Included in First Phase

In the initial phase, certificate courses will cover thirteen Indian languages:

  • Kannada
  • Sanskrit
  • Malayalam
  • Telugu
  • Sindhi
  • Punjabi
  • Gujarati
  • Tamil
  • Bengali
  • Manipuri
  • Marathi
  • Odia
  • Assamese

Dhirendra Shukla, OSD at the Department of Higher Education, confirmed the plan. He stated that the program would expand to all colleges if it receives positive feedback. Authorities also plan to introduce foreign language courses at a later stage.

Course Structure and Delivery Mode

Each certificate course will carry four credits and span sixty hours of instruction. This duration equals sixty working days. Students must complete their courses within a maximum period of six months.

Teaching will primarily occur through online mode to ensure wider access. Colleges may organize contact classes when necessary. The syllabus for each language will follow frameworks used by standard academic institutions.

Curriculum Development and Coordination

Expert committees will design and finalize the curriculum for each language. Officials have already drawn up a detailed calendar for committee formation and syllabus development.

During the initial phase, designated nodal autonomous colleges will coordinate online classes. These nodal colleges will also handle examinations, question paper setting, answer sheet evaluation, and result declaration.

Fee Structure and Student Provisions

Students enrolling in these certificate courses will pay a fee of five hundred rupees. This fee covers instruction, examinations, and certificate issuance. Authorities clarified that no scholarships will be available for these programs.

Students who cannot complete their course in one attempt will receive an additional opportunity. Colleges may engage subject experts at the local level to support teaching and academic delivery.
