Ludhiana Industrialists Demand Action on Sanitation and Safety Issues
Industrialists Demand Action on Sanitation and Safety in Ludhiana

A delegation of industrialists met Municipal Commissioner Neeru Katyal Gupta in Ludhiana to demand immediate action on pressing civic issues, including poor sanitation, non-functional streetlights, and rampant encroachments in the city's focal points.

Sanitation Concerns in Industrial Zones

The delegation highlighted that roadsides in industrial areas have turned into illegal dumping grounds, with scattered waste creating a negative impression on international buyers and business delegations. Factory owners often feel embarrassed during client visits due to the unsightly conditions. The group urged the civic body to install static compactors and designate specific collection points to curb indiscriminate dumping.

Safety and Security Issues

Security was another major concern raised by the industrialists. They pointed out that a majority of the 2,200 streetlight points in focal points are non-functional, leading to increased incidents of thefts and snatchings. The lack of proper lighting makes it unsafe for workers during late-night shifts, and the delegation called for urgent restoration of streetlights to improve safety.

Encroachments and Action Plan

The delegation also demanded a crackdown on encroachments in industrial areas, which obstruct traffic and create unhygienic conditions. They urged the municipal corporation to take strict action against violators and ensure that industrial zones remain clean, well-lit, and free from illegal occupations. The commissioner assured the delegation that their concerns would be addressed on a priority basis.
