Ludhiana: At least seven women were injured on Saturday afternoon after a major explosion sparked a massive fire at a steel factory in the village of Bishanpura. The blast occurred at the facility near Doraha, sending thick plumes of smoke across the industrial belt.
Emergency services responded with more than 50 fire tenders to battle the blaze, which continued to burn several hours after the initial explosion. Two workers, Meena and Anjali from the nearby village of Kaddon, sustained serious injuries and were moved to a local hospital. Five other women — Devika, Bimla, Soni, Surjit, and Kulwinder Kaur — also required medical treatment following the incident.
The cause of the blast remains unknown. Inspector Akash Dutt, the station house officer at Doraha, confirmed that the priority remains extinguishing the fire before forensic teams can safely enter the site. Local MLA Manwinder Singh Giaspura visited the scene to oversee the response and promised a rigorous investigation.
"Strict action will be taken if any negligence on the part of the factory management comes to light," Giaspura said.
The incident has raised concerns about industrial safety in the region. Authorities are expected to conduct a thorough probe to determine the exact cause of the explosion and prevent future occurrences. Meanwhile, the injured women are receiving medical care, and their conditions are reported to be stable.
