Dubai RTA Unveils Major Transport Cost Reduction Initiative

The initiative, revealed in early April 2026, provides 50 per cent discounts on taxi fares alongside complete exemptions from public parking fees across designated zones.
Targeted Benefits for People of Determination
The 50 per cent taxi fare reduction primarily targets People of Determination, a category officially recognized across the United Arab Emirates for individuals with disabilities. According to RTA officials, eligible residents must hold valid identification such as the Sanad card, which enables access to a wide range of government-supported benefits and services.
The discounted fares apply specifically to RTA taxis, including specially equipped vehicles designed to cater to mobility needs such as wheelchair accessibility. This strategic measure ensures that beneficiaries can travel more affordably for essential trips including medical appointments, work commutes, and daily errands.
Expanded Parking Fee Exemptions
As part of the same agreement, Dubai has significantly expanded parking fee exemptions for eligible residents across all designated paid parking zones. RTA officials confirmed that these exemptions apply to registered beneficiaries under approved social welfare categories.
While People of Determination remain the primary focus of these initiatives, certain senior citizens and qualifying residents enrolled in social support programmes may also benefit, subject to proper approval and documentation.
