The first batch of 44 pilgrims undertaking the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra 2026 crossed into China through the Nathu La Pass in Sikkim, marking the official commencement of this year's pilgrimage. Authorities completed extensive logistical and medical preparations before the pilgrims embarked on the sacred journey.
Pilgrimage Route and Preparations
The Nathu La Pass, located at an altitude of 4,310 meters, serves as the entry point for the yatra. The route involves a challenging trek through high-altitude terrain, requiring careful planning and support. The Indian and Chinese governments coordinated to ensure smooth passage, with security and medical teams stationed along the way.
Significance of the Yatra
The Kailash Mansarovar Yatra is a revered pilgrimage for Hindus, Buddhists, Jains, and Bonpos, who believe that circumambulating Mount Kailash and bathing in Lake Mansarovar cleanses sins and brings spiritual merit. The 2026 edition is expected to see multiple batches over the next few months.
Logistics and Safety Measures
According to officials, each pilgrim underwent health screenings and received high-altitude training. Oxygen cylinders, medical tents, and communication equipment were deployed along the route. The Ministry of External Affairs confirmed that all necessary clearances were obtained from Chinese authorities.
