Two Vizag-Bound IndiGo Flights Diverted to Hyderabad

Flights Diverted Due to Inclement Weather

Two IndiGo flights destined for Visakhapatnam (Vizag) were diverted to Hyderabad on the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday, 20-21 June 2026, due to adverse weather conditions. The affected flights were IndiGo flight 6E 5248 from Navi Mumbai and IndiGo flight 6E 969 from Bengaluru, which were unable to land at Visakhapatnam International Airport as scheduled.

Details of the Diversions

According to an IndiGo spokesperson, the decision to divert the flights was taken to ensure passenger safety after weather conditions deteriorated in the Vizag region. Flight 6E 5248, which departed from Navi Mumbai, was rerouted to Hyderabad, where it landed safely. Similarly, flight 6E 969 from Bengaluru was also diverted to Hyderabad. The airline coordinated with airport authorities to manage the arrivals and provide assistance to passengers.

Impact on Passengers

Passengers on both flights were accommodated at Hyderabad airport, where IndiGo arranged for refreshments and alternative travel arrangements. Some passengers were rebooked on later flights to Visakhapatnam once weather conditions improved. An airline official stated, 'Our priority is the safety of our passengers and crew. We regret the inconvenience caused by the diversions but these measures were necessary due to the severe weather.'

Weather Conditions in Visakhapatnam

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had earlier issued a warning for thunderstorms and heavy rainfall along the Andhra Pradesh coast, including Visakhapatnam. The inclement weather, characterized by low visibility and strong winds, made landing operations risky. The diversions occurred late Saturday night, with both flights arriving in Hyderabad within an hour of each other.

Airline Response and Compensation

IndiGo confirmed that all passengers were provided with necessary assistance, including hotel accommodation if required. The airline also offered compensation as per regulatory guidelines for the delay. A total of 276 passengers were affected across both flights, according to airport sources. The flights resumed their journey to Vizag on Sunday morning after weather conditions normalized.
