Kanpur Weather Update: Brief Storm and Drizzle Bring Relief from Heat
Kanpur witnessed a welcome change in weather on Tuesday evening as a light storm and drizzle swept across the city, providing much-needed respite from the intense daytime heat. The sudden shift in conditions led to a noticeable drop in temperature, offering relief to residents who had been enduring scorching conditions.
Details of the Weather Event
The weather transformation began around 5 pm when clouds started gathering over the city. Light winds quickly followed, setting the stage for a drizzle that persisted for approximately half an hour. This brief but impactful weather event marked a significant departure from the earlier heat.
According to rainfall measurements recorded until 8 pm, various areas of Kanpur received different amounts of precipitation:
- Company Bagh Centre: 2.3 mm
- Kakadeo: 2.7 mm
- Civil Lines: 3.1 mm
- Naubasta Centre: 2.9 mm
Temperature Changes and IMD Forecast
The maximum temperature recorded in Kanpur was 33.5°C, which represents a significant 2.5°C below normal levels. Meanwhile, the minimum temperature settled at 18.8°C, remaining close to the seasonal average for this time of year.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued forecasts indicating that this weather activity is part of a larger pattern. The IMD predicts that a new western disturbance will trigger pre-monsoon rain and hailstorms at several locations on April 7 and 8. According to meteorological experts, two successive western disturbances are expected to impact the region, with peak weather activity anticipated during this period.
The forecast includes isolated light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, gusty winds reaching speeds of 30-50 kmph, and potential hailstorms. This weather system is expected to bring varied conditions across different areas.
Expert Analysis and Future Predictions
S. Sunil Pandey, a weather expert from CSA University of Agriculture and Technology, provided additional insights into the developing weather situation. He explained that the influence of the western disturbance is likely to persist, with chances of light drizzle and isolated hailstorms continuing into Wednesday as well.
Pandey noted that due to moisture present in the atmosphere, cloud movement is expected during the daytime hours. However, he added that there is little possibility of rainfall occurring after 11 am on Wednesday, suggesting a specific window for precipitation.
Looking further ahead, weather models indicate a return to clearer conditions. From April 9 to April 12, the forecast predicts clear skies and strong sunshine, marking a transition back to more typical weather patterns for this season.
The brief storm and drizzle episode in Kanpur serves as a reminder of the dynamic nature of pre-monsoon weather patterns in the region. Residents are advised to stay updated with the latest weather forecasts as conditions may change rapidly during this transitional period between seasons.
