Gurgaon Braces for Unstable Weather with IMD Thunderstorm Alerts
After a slight drop in night temperatures, the weather in Gurgaon and across Haryana is poised to become highly unstable this week. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued critical alerts, signaling a shift from mild conditions to a period of intense atmospheric activity.
Temperature Trends and Current Conditions
On Sunday, Gurgaon recorded a minimum temperature of 18.2 degrees Celsius, which is approximately 1.5 degrees Celsius lower than the previous day's 19.7 degrees Celsius. The maximum temperature settled at 30.9 degrees Celsius, compared to 30.7 degrees Celsius on Saturday, indicating relatively mild early April weather. Across Haryana, minimum temperatures have remained close to normal levels, with some parts already experiencing light rainfall over the weekend.
IMD Alerts and Forecast Details
The IMD has activated a yellow alert for April 6, warning of isolated thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds reaching 30-40 kmph. Weather activity is expected to intensify significantly thereafter, with an orange alert in effect for April 7 and April 8. During this period, thunderstorms are likely to become more widespread, with gusty winds accelerating to 40-50 kmph and the potential for hailstorms in isolated areas.
Forecast data indicates that rainfall will expand across Haryana starting April 7, including Gurgaon. While April 6 may see only isolated rainfall, April 7 could bring showers to many places, followed by scattered rainfall and possible hailstorms on April 8. Conditions are projected to dry out again by April 9, returning to more stable weather patterns.
Underlying Weather Patterns and Precautions
This unstable phase is driven by a western disturbance, marking a transition from relatively calm conditions to an active weather system. For Gurgaon, this means cloudy skies, brief but intense rain spells, and strong winds throughout midweek, with the peak intensity likely on April 7 and 8. Residents are strongly advised to exercise caution during thunderstorms, particularly due to risks associated with strong winds and lightning strikes. Staying indoors and avoiding open areas during severe weather is recommended to ensure safety.
