Ahmedabad Weather Update: Slight Relief Expected as Temperatures May Dip
After enduring a week of intense summer heat, residents of Ahmedabad may finally experience a slight reprieve starting Sunday. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has indicated that a Western Disturbance could lead to a minor dip in maximum temperatures. However, the forecast suggests that temperatures will still remain around 40°C, providing only marginal relief from the scorching conditions.
Recent Temperature Trends and Forecast Details
Ahmedabad has been grappling with a prolonged hot spell, with maximum temperatures consistently exceeding 40°C over the past week. On Tuesday, the mercury soared to 41.4°C, while Thursday recorded a maximum temperature of 40.4°C, which is 0.8 degrees above the normal level. The minimum temperature on Thursday was 25.7°C, marking a 1.4-degree increase above normal. Additionally, relative humidity in the morning hours rose slightly to 58%, according to IMD data.
The city's forecast for Friday predicts a partly cloudy sky with a maximum temperature hovering around 40°C. IMD officials have stated that no significant changes in maximum temperatures are expected over the next three days. Following this period, a gradual decline of 2-3 degrees is very likely across the region. Maximum temperatures are anticipated to remain above 40°C in isolated pockets of the Gujarat region, as well as in Saurashtra-Kutch, during the upcoming days.
Impact of Western Disturbance and Regional Weather Patterns
The IMD bulletin attributes the potential temperature drop to a Western Disturbance, described as a trough system. This disturbance is part of an east-west trough extending from southeast Rajasthan to Manipur, crossing cyclonic circulations over northeast Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, Gangetic West Bengal, Bangladesh, and southeast Assam, which persisted as of Thursday.
In terms of regional weather, the state forecast indicates chances of light to moderate rainfall in parts of Aravalli, Dahod, Mahisagar, Amreli, and Bhavnagar on April 19 and 20. It is noteworthy that, except for the past week, Gujarat has generally experienced below-normal maximum temperatures this season. Across the coastal regions of the state, hot and humid weather conditions are likely to continue, as per the latest forecasts.
This weather update comes as a reminder of the ongoing summer challenges in Ahmedabad and surrounding areas, with residents advised to stay hydrated and take necessary precautions against the heat.
