Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi departed for Russia on Tuesday after a brief visit to Pakistan, where he held talks with Pakistani leaders on bilateral relations and regional developments.
Visit to Pakistan
Araghchi arrived in Islamabad on Monday for a short stay, during which he met with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari. The discussions focused on enhancing economic cooperation, border security, and addressing mutual concerns over the situation in Afghanistan.
In a statement, the Pakistani Foreign Office said the visit underscored the importance both countries place on strengthening ties. Araghchi also met with Pakistan's Army Chief General Asim Munir to discuss security matters.
Departure for Russia
After wrapping up his engagements in Pakistan, Araghchi left for Moscow on Tuesday. He is expected to meet with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and other officials to discuss bilateral relations, the Iran nuclear deal, and cooperation in international forums. The visit is part of Iran's efforts to bolster ties with key allies amid ongoing tensions with the West.
Analysts view Araghchi's trip as a strategic move to coordinate positions with Russia and Pakistan on regional issues, including the situation in Afghanistan and the fight against terrorism.
