Bengaluru corporations have swung into action as pre-monsoon rains pick up pace across the city. The Bruhat Bengaluru Wate Board (BWCC) Commissioner Rajendra K V has issued directives to identify low-lying areas prone to water stagnation and damage, while maintaining continuous contact with local residents.
Proactive Measures
The civic body is focusing on vulnerable zones to mitigate potential flooding and infrastructure damage. Officials have been instructed to monitor weather updates closely and coordinate with emergency services. Pre-monsoon preparations include clearing stormwater drains, deploying pumps in flood-prone areas, and setting up control rooms for real-time response.
Community Engagement
Residents in low-lying areas are being alerted through local networks and social media. The BWCC has urged citizens to report waterlogging or damage immediately. Commissioner Rajendra K V emphasized that continuous communication with locals is key to minimizing disruptions. Teams have been formed to conduct door-to-door awareness campaigns.
Infrastructure Readiness
Engineers are inspecting critical infrastructure such as bridges, culverts, and retaining walls. Temporary barriers and sandbags are being stockpiled in high-risk zones. The corporation has also coordinated with the traffic police to manage potential roadblocks. Pre-monsoon rain, which typically lasts from May to June, often causes chaos in Bengaluru due to inadequate drainage systems. This year, the BWCC aims to reduce response time and prevent loss of life and property.
Citizens are advised to stay tuned to official updates and avoid venturing into waterlogged areas. The civic body has assured that all resources are mobilized to handle any emergency. With the monsoon season approaching, Bengaluru’s preparedness will be put to the test.
