Delhi Police Busts Fake Online Car Scam, Arrests Ex-Seller

New Delhi: Delhi Police has successfully dismantled a fraudulent online car-selling scheme and apprehended a former car seller in connection with the case. The scam was uncovered after a resident of East Delhi’s Trilokpuri was allegedly cheated of Rs 2 lakh.

Complaint and Investigation

Police received a complaint from the victim on April 16, stating that he had been duped under the pretext of a second-hand car deal. According to the complainant, an unknown person contacted him through an online platform. After the victim transferred money as a booking and processing charge, he never received the vehicle, and all communication ceased.

“Analysis of bank transactions revealed that the cheated amount was transferred into a bank account, leading to the identification of the suspect as Aman Sethi,” said DCP (East) Rajeev Kumar.

A case has been registered under sections 308 (extortion), 318 (cheating), 319 (cheating by personation), and 340 (forged document or electronic record and using it as genuine) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
