In a significant development for technical education in Bihar, ten engineering programmes across seven government polytechnic institutes under the department of science, technology and technical education have received accreditation from the National Board of Accreditation (NBA). The accredited programmes include mechanical engineering, electronics engineering, electrical engineering, and computer science engineering.
Institutions That Secured Accreditation
The institutions that secured this recognition are government polytechnics at Aurangabad, Chapra, Kishanganj, Supaul, Saharsa, West Champaran, and New Government Polytechnic (NGP), Patna. This achievement builds on the success of 2024, when New Government Polytechnic, Patna received NBA accreditation for its civil engineering and mechanical engineering programmes.
Education Experts' Views
Education experts believe that this latest recognition marks a major milestone in Bihar's efforts to strengthen the quality and credibility of technical education at the national level. The accreditation is expected to inspire other institutions to pursue excellence and further elevate Bihar's technical education landscape.
Government Officials' Reactions
Science, technology, and technical education minister Shila Kumari described the accreditation as a matter of pride for the state. She attributed the success to sustained improvements in documentation, research and development, and placement activities across institutions. Department secretary Himanshu Sharma termed the achievement 'just the beginning' and expressed confidence that more technical institutions in Bihar would soon join the list of NBA-accredited colleges. Additional secretary-cum-director Ahmed Mahmood credited the accomplishment to teamwork and consistent efforts.
Impact on Technical Education
The accreditation is seen as a key step in enhancing the quality of technical education in Bihar. It is expected to boost the confidence of students and employers, and encourage other institutions to strive for similar recognition. With this achievement, Bihar's polytechnics are now better positioned to compete nationally.
