Deputy Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Brajesh Pathak, asserted on Sunday that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been the driving force behind a transformative wave in Indian sports. Speaking in Varanasi, Pathak credited the PM with injecting a fresh surge of energy into the nation's athletes and ushering in an unprecedented era of development for the sporting ecosystem since his government took charge in 2014.
A New Dawn for Indian Sports Post-2014
Pathak emphatically stated that the trajectory of Indian sports changed decisively after 2014. He highlighted that under PM Modi's leadership, the budget allocated for all sports disciplines was increased manifold, providing the crucial financial backbone for infrastructure, training, and athlete welfare. "The country where players excel, achieves new heights. After 2014, PM Modi ensured development of sports in the country," Pathak said.
Concrete Steps and Global Dominance
The Deputy CM listed several key initiatives that symbolize this new approach. He pointed to the establishment of a sports university named after the legendary hockey player Major Dhyan Chand in Meerut as a landmark achievement. Furthermore, he mentioned that the state government is actively recruiting players at high positions, recognizing their discipline and dedication beyond the playing field.
Pathak proudly noted the results of these efforts on the global stage. "Indian players have dominance in the whole world," he claimed. He also inspired participants at a local tournament by announcing that winners would get a chance to be part of the national team, aiming to hoist the flag of Bharat Mata at the international level.
Personal Touch and Contrast with the Past
Pathak underscored the Prime Minister's personal involvement in honoring athletes. He revealed that PM Modi himself talks to players who participate and return from major competitions like the Olympics, Commonwealth, and Asian Games. "He gives a message to the world that these players are members of our family. No stone will be left unturned to honour them," Pathak added.
In a sharp critique of the previous Congress-led government, Pathak contrasted the current development-focused approach with allegations of corruption. He specifically referenced that the Commonwealth Games during the Congress govt were mired in corruption.
Concluding his address, Pathak urged all players to display true sportsmanship on the field, reminding them that every player who enters the field is a winner in spirit and effort.
