Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath launched a scathing attack on the Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress (TMC) government in West Bengal, alleging that the state has been turned into an 'industrial graveyard' under its rule. Speaking at a rally in Kolkata on Wednesday, Adityanath accused the TMC of fostering corruption and discouraging investment, leading to economic stagnation.
Accusations of Industrial Decline
Adityanath claimed that West Bengal, once a hub of industrial activity, has witnessed a sharp decline in manufacturing and business growth. He pointed to the exodus of industries and investors, blaming the state government's policies for the downturn. 'The TMC has turned Bengal into an industrial graveyard. Industries are shutting down, and unemployment is rising,' he said.
Comparison with Uttar Pradesh
The Uttar Pradesh CM contrasted his state's progress with West Bengal's situation, stating that his government has successfully attracted investments and improved infrastructure. He urged the people of Bengal to support the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the upcoming elections to bring about change.
Reaction from TMC
The TMC swiftly responded to Adityanath's remarks, dismissing them as baseless. Senior TMC leader and state minister Firhad Hakim said, 'West Bengal is witnessing unprecedented development under Mamata Banerjee's leadership. The BJP is spreading lies to gain political mileage.' The party also highlighted various welfare schemes and industrial projects initiated by the state government.
Political Context
The rally comes ahead of the 2026 West Bengal assembly elections, where the BJP aims to unseat the TMC. Adityanath's visit is part of a series of campaigns by BJP leaders to garner support in the state. The political atmosphere remains charged, with both parties exchanging barbs over governance and development issues.
Adityanath also criticized the TMC for alleged lawlessness and political violence in West Bengal, calling it a threat to democracy. He appealed to voters to choose the BJP for a safer and more prosperous Bengal.
