Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam chief Vijay has formally staked claim to form the government in Tamil Nadu after meeting Governor RV Arlekar and claiming support from 118 MLAs, which is the exact majority mark in the 234-member Assembly. Sources indicate that Vijay is likely to take oath as Chief Minister tomorrow at 11 AM, although Raj Bhavan is yet to issue an official confirmation.
Political Developments
The dramatic political developments came after days of uncertainty over whether TVK could gather enough support to cross the majority mark. Congress reportedly broke away from the DMK to support Vijay, while Left parties CPI and CPM, along with the VCK and smaller parties, also extended their backing.
TVK's Historic Victory
TVK had stunned Tamil Nadu politics by winning 108 seats in its debut election, ending the decades-long dominance of the DMK and AIADMK. Vijay’s expected swearing-in could mark the beginning of a major political shift in the state.
The swearing-in ceremony is anticipated to be a significant event, with many political leaders expected to attend. The new government is likely to focus on key issues such as development, welfare, and governance reforms. Vijay's rise to power represents a new chapter in Tamil Nadu's political landscape, breaking the traditional two-party system.
