The Cantt police in Varanasi dismantled a liquor smuggling gang operating from a rented house in the Taktakpur Anoula area on Thursday. Two key operators of the gang, identified as Gaurav Sahni (22) and Arvind Sahani (35), both residents of Begusarai district in Bihar, were arrested. A substantial quantity of illicit liquor was seized during the operation.
Police Action Based on Specific Intelligence
According to ACP (Cantt) Apoorv Pandey, the action was taken following specific inputs regarding suspicious activities and illegal stocking of liquor at the location. Acting on the tip-off, Inspector Shivakant Mishra and his team conducted a raid at the house. During the search, police recovered 742 bottles of various brands of Indian-made foreign liquor (IMFL) valued at Rs96,460, along with Rs30,000 in cash.
Modus Operandi of the Gang
Preliminary investigation revealed that the gang procured liquor from licensed shops in Uttar Pradesh and stored it at the rented premises in Varanasi. From there, the consignments were smuggled to several districts in Bihar, where they were sold illegally.
Police have stated that further investigation is underway to identify other members of the network and trace the supply chain involved in this interstate smuggling operation. The arrested individuals are being questioned to uncover additional details about the gang's activities and connections.
