Vadodara Municipal Corporation's Tax Collection Approaches Rs 700 Crore Milestone
The Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) is on the verge of achieving a significant financial milestone, with its tax collection poised to exceed Rs 700 crore. As of the latest reports, the corporation has already amassed Rs 699.22 crore, showcasing a robust effort in revenue generation.
Aggressive Measures to Boost Tax Recovery
To enhance tax collection, the VMC has implemented a series of proactive strategies. These include initiating the collection of overdue taxes and introducing a scheme that waives interest on pending tax amounts, aimed at encouraging timely payments from defaulters.
In a more stringent move, the corporation has commenced the process of sealing properties where taxes remain unpaid. This action is designed to ensure that outstanding dues are recovered, thereby bolstering municipal finances.
Fiscal Targets and Year-End Push
Sources within the VMC reveal that the total tax target for the current fiscal year stands at Rs 790.10 crore. With the financial year drawing to a close, approximately Rs 90 crore in collections is still pending against this ambitious goal.
Officials are reportedly working overtime to bridge this gap and meet the target. Their efforts are focused on maximizing revenue streams as the deadline approaches.
Outreach to Government Departments
The VMC has also taken steps to address tax arrears from various government departments that own large buildings within the city. Officials have written to these departments, urging them to clear their pending taxes.
Notably, the corporation tends to avoid sealing or other strict enforcement actions against such government entities, opting instead for diplomatic communication to resolve outstanding dues.
This comprehensive approach underscores the VMC's commitment to strengthening its financial health while balancing enforcement with cooperation, especially in dealings with other government bodies.
