Ulhasnagar Municipal Corporation Introduces Abhay Yojana for Tax Relief

In a significant move to provide financial relief to taxpayers, the Ulhasnagar Municipal Corporation (UMC) has officially announced the launch of a special scheme named "Abhay Yojana". This initiative aims to waive penalty charges on pending property tax and water tax dues for a limited period, offering citizens a much-needed respite from accumulated fines.

MLA Kumar Ailani's Role in Initiating the Scheme

The decision to implement Abhay Yojana was taken in response to persistent demands by MLA Kumar Ailani, who had been advocating for a relief scheme to assist citizens struggling with tax payments. Ailani formally wrote to the municipal administration and engaged in detailed discussions over the phone with Municipal Commissioner Manisha Awhale, urging the introduction of such a program. His efforts were supported by several leaders from various political parties, who also approached the mayor with similar requests, highlighting widespread public demand for tax relief measures.

Details of the Abhay Yojana Implementation

Responding positively to these appeals, Municipal Commissioner Manisha Awhale approved the implementation of Abhay Yojana for a four-day window from March 13 to March 16, 2026. Under this scheme, citizens who pay their outstanding property tax and water tax dues in a lump sum during this period will receive a complete waiver on penalty charges. The civic administration has specified that if taxpayers clear their entire pending property tax along with the current demand for the financial year 2025–26, they will be eligible for a 100% waiver on delayed penalty amounts.

Expected Benefits and Official Appeals

Officials from the Ulhasnagar Municipal Corporation anticipate that this initiative will encourage more residents to settle their outstanding dues, thereby benefiting from the penalty relief while simultaneously boosting the municipal body's financial resources. Mayor Ashwini Nikam has made a public appeal, urging residents to take full advantage of the scheme within the stipulated timeframe. She emphasized that taxpayers with pending dues should clear them during the scheme period to avail of the benefits and avoid future complications.

Warnings and Future Implications

Mayor Nikam also issued a stern warning, stating that taxpayers who fail to clear their dues within the given time frame will be held responsible for any strict administrative actions taken by the municipal corporation in the future. This underscores the urgency for compliance and highlights the corporation's commitment to enforcing tax regulations post-scheme.

Strengthening Municipal Finances and Development

The civic administration has called for citizen cooperation in clearing pending taxes, emphasizing that such payments are crucial for strengthening the municipal body's financial capabilities. These funds are essential for carrying out various development projects and civic works across Ulhasnagar, ultimately contributing to the city's overall growth and infrastructure improvement.

MLA Kumar Ailani expressed his gratitude to Commissioner Manisha Awhale for taking a decisive step in the interest of the citizens by implementing Abhay Yojana. This scheme represents a proactive approach by the Ulhasnagar Municipal Corporation to address taxpayer concerns while fostering a collaborative environment for urban development.
