Tellapur Radial Road Incomplete for 10 Years, Residents Suffer

Tellapur's Long-Awaited Radial Road Still Incomplete After a Decade

For ten long years, the residents of Tellapur in Hyderabad have been waiting for the completion of a crucial 7.7 km radial road. Their daily commutes have turned into a constant struggle, navigating through potholes, gravel, and uneven surfaces that make travel slow and frustrating.

Critical Link for 80,000 Residents Remains in Poor Condition

This incomplete road serves as the main connection for approximately 80,000 residents to essential destinations including the Financial District, Lingampally railway station, and the Outer Ring Road (ORR). The poor condition has significantly increased travel times, with some residents reporting that their commute has nearly doubled.

"Every day feels like an off-road drive," said M Venkat, a Tellapur resident. "The roads are full of potholes and loose gravel, and it becomes impossible to walk or drive in the rain. Moreover, travel time has nearly doubled due to the poor condition of the roads. It now takes me over 30 minutes to reach the Financial District, which should ideally take 15–20 minutes. The roads are the biggest bottleneck."

Safety Concerns and Frustration Among Residents

Residents express particular disappointment because they pay some of the highest property taxes in Greater Hyderabad, yet continue to deal with unfinished infrastructure. The situation becomes especially dangerous during peak hours and the monsoon season when sections of the road become slushy and prone to accidents.

Parents are particularly worried about schoolchildren's safety. "School buses and autos struggle to navigate these roads," said Deepthi Reddy, a concerned parent. "We are constantly worried about safety, especially when heavy vehicles use the same routes."

Infrastructure Lagging Behind Real Estate Growth

Residents point out that the area's rapid real estate development has not been matched by corresponding infrastructure improvements. Thousands of apartments have been constructed over the past decade, but basic connectivity remains inadequate. Although authorities permitted extensive construction, the fundamental road network remains incomplete.

Official Response and Project Status

According to officials from the Roads & Buildings department, approximately 50% of the radial road works in Tellapur have been completed so far. Delays have been largely attributed to funding constraints and land acquisition hurdles.

"The project is now set for a reset," said an official from the engineering wing. "The remaining works are being handed over to the Cyberabad municipal corporation, and execution will finally pick up pace."

Formal Complaint Filed by Residents Association

The Tellapur Neighbourhood Association has recently written to the Cyberabad municipal corporation, formally complaining about the extremely poor condition of the road. The association highlighted damaged sections and numerous potholes that have resulted in:

  • Frequent accidents
  • Significant vehicle damage
  • Serious safety risks for daily commuters

The residents' frustration continues to grow as they wait for authorities to fulfill promises made a decade ago regarding this essential infrastructure project that affects thousands of lives daily.
