Security forces and Maoists exchanged fire in Jharkhand's West Singhbhum district, according to police sources. The encounter took place in a forested area near the border of the district. No casualties have been reported so far from either side.
Misir Besra Still Active
Police sources confirmed that Misir Besra, a politburo member of the Communist Party of India (Maoist), remains active in the region along with his group. Besra carries a bounty of Rs 1 crore on his head and is considered a key leader of the outlawed organization.
Ongoing Operations
Security forces have been conducting search operations in the area following the exchange of fire. The operation aims to track down and neutralize the Maoist presence in West Singhbhum, which has historically been a stronghold of left-wing extremists.
Local authorities have urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity. The police have also increased patrolling in nearby villages to ensure the safety of the local population.
This incident underscores the continued challenge posed by Maoist insurgency in parts of central and eastern India, despite significant counter-insurgency efforts by the government.
