Ranchi Authorities Launch Comprehensive Measures to Address LPG Shortage Crisis
In response to a severe and escalating LPG crisis affecting households and businesses across the state, the Directorate of Food and Consumer Affairs has implemented decisive actions to regulate the supply of both commercial and domestic cylinders. The department has introduced a dedicated toll-free number, 1967, specifically designed for residents to report disruptions in LPG availability, aiming to streamline grievance redressal and restore normalcy.
Establishment of Control Room and Call Centre for Public Complaints
Director Dilip Tirkey officially announced on Tuesday that a temporary control room and call centre have been set up to manage the influx of complaints. This facility will operate daily from 8 am to 8 pm, providing a structured platform for citizens to voice their concerns. Tirkey emphasized, "Our primary objective is to guarantee that citizens encounter no supply issues whatsoever regarding LPG cylinders, petrol, or kerosene. We are committed to resolving these problems efficiently."
Elaborating on the complaint resolution process, Tirkey explained that upon registration of a grievance, officials in the relevant district will be immediately notified. This prompt alert system is intended to facilitate swift action tailored to the specific nature of each issue, ensuring timely solutions for affected individuals and establishments.
District Administration's Parallel Initiative to Enhance Coal Availability
In a complementary effort to mitigate the impact of the kitchen fuel shortage, Ranchi Deputy Commissioner Manjunath Bhajantri has issued directives to officials to ensure a consistent and reliable supply of coal for the general public and local businesses. This strategic move follows a high-level meeting chaired by the DC, which focused on addressing the scarcity of cylinders and the consequent hardships faced by households, hotels, restaurants, and dhaba operators.
Bhajantri stated, "The district administration is unwavering in its commitment to preventing any form of inconvenience for the general public. Given the current LPG crisis, coal emerges as a practical alternative fuel source. Therefore, our top priorities include strengthening the supply chain and rigorously curbing black marketing activities."
Focus on Quality, Affordability, and Distribution Logistics
The Deputy Commissioner underscored that coal must not only be available in ample quantities but also maintain high quality standards and remain affordable for the common man. The meeting, which included participation from senior officials of Central Coalfields Limited (CCL), centered on enhancing production capabilities and optimizing distribution logistics to meet increased demand.
Discussions also explored leveraging CCL's Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives to support small traders and communities adversely affected by the fuel shortage. To prevent exploitation during this critical period, the administration is implementing an effective monitoring mechanism designed to check unjustified price hikes and artificial scarcity, safeguarding consumer interests.
Strengthening Transportation Networks and Warning Against Hoarding
Bhajantri has urged CCL to bolster its transportation and distribution network within the Ranchi district to prevent any potential shortfalls in coal supply. Issuing a stern warning to hoarders, the DC added, "It is our fundamental duty to ensure citizens have access to alternative fuel sources. Simultaneously, we will initiate strict punitive actions against any individuals found engaging in black marketing or hoarding practices, as such activities exacerbate the crisis."
