Rajasthan Congress Announces Major Agitation Against US Trade Deal

The Rajasthan Congress has declared it will launch a significant statewide agitation against the Centre's trade agreement with the United States, beginning with a crucial farmers' conference in Sriganganagar on March 9. Congress state president Govind Singh Dotasra made this announcement on Wednesday, framing the event as the starting point of an extensive campaign opposing what the party describes as a detrimental international pact.

High-Profile Leadership to Address Conference

Congress national president Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi are scheduled to address the conference, lending considerable political weight to the proceedings. The party emphasizes that this gathering will mark the formal commencement of a comprehensive statewide movement against the trade agreement, which they argue poses severe risks to local economic interests.

Allegations of Compromised National Interests

Dotasra leveled serious allegations against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, claiming he accepted the trade deal "under pressure from the US" and in doing so, compromised the welfare of numerous sectors within Rajasthan. According to Dotasra, the agreement will adversely affect:

  • Farmers across the state
  • Local traders and business owners
  • Industrialists and manufacturing sectors
  • Entrepreneurs and small business operators
  • Handicraft artisans preserving traditional crafts

"The Prime Minister made a trade deal with the United States that directly compromises the interests of the country's farmers, and our party will oppose this vigorously," Dotasra stated emphatically.

Commitment to Grassroots Mobilization

Dotasra further elaborated that Congress workers are fully committed to undertaking every possible step and engaging in sustained struggle to protect the interests of the nation's farmers and traders. The party plans to actively reach out to farmers and traders who are "affected by the American trade deal" to build a broad-based coalition against the agreement.

"We will systematically expose the decision taken by the Centre against national interest," Dotasra asserted, indicating a strategy of public awareness and political pressure. The March 9 conference in Sriganganagar is thus positioned not merely as a political event but as a rallying cry for economic sovereignty and protection of local livelihoods against perceived external pressures.
