Punjab BJP Criticizes AAP's Response to ED Raids on Minister Sanjeev Arora
In a sharp rebuke to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), the Punjab unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday stated that the "noise" being made by AAP over Enforcement Directorate (ED) raids on cabinet minister Sanjeev Arora's premises suggests there is "something fishy." The political confrontation erupted after AAP criticized the central government for the raids, with BJP leaders asserting that the investigation is a routine legal process.
BJP General Secretary Questions AAP's Reaction
Punjab BJP general secretary Anil Sarin, in a video statement, expressed surprise at AAP's vehement response. "Today there was an ED raid on Punjab cabinet minister Sanjeev. I am surprised — why is so much noise being made about it?" Sarin questioned. He emphasized that when a matter reaches an investigating agency, it is their duty to probe it thoroughly. "This is a routine matter. Let the law take its own course," he added.
Sarin further challenged AAP's stance, asking, "But the way the entire Aam Aadmi Party is creating uproar, are they above the law of the country, are they above the Constitution? Just because they have become ministers, have they become God that they cannot be questioned?" He argued that if AAP leaders believe they are clean, they should have nothing to fear from the investigation. "The kind of noise they are making makes it seem that there is something fishy. I would request them — let the investigating agencies do their job," Sarin concluded.
Union Minister and SAD Leader Weigh In
Union Minister of State for Railways and Food Processing Industries Ravneet Singh Bittu added to the criticism with a sarcastic post on social media platform X. Referring to the ED raids on Arora, he wrote in Punjabi, "Sab farhay jaange…! (All will be caught)." This one-liner underscored the BJP's position that the raids are part of a broader crackdown on alleged corruption.
Senior Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader and former minister Bikram Singh Majithia accused AAP of hypocrisy in its approach to corruption. In a written statement, Majithia said, "When central agencies such as the CBI and ED initiate action against AAP leaders, it is described as oppression, but when Punjab Vigilance proceeds against opposition leaders, it is portrayed as a crackdown on corruption." He alleged that AAP has adopted double standards, with its leaders facing scrutiny over financial dealings.
Majithia further claimed that individuals within AAP's financial network, including Rajya Sabha MP Ashok Mittal and minister Sanjeev Arora, have come under focus. "A high-level probe would bring out more names linked to alleged financial dealings, including claims that crores were used to secure Rajya Sabha seats and facilitate party funding," he asserted, hinting at deeper investigations that could expose more details.
