Operation Tiger 30 Gains Momentum in Maharashtra
A key loyalist of Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has claimed that more than a dozen MLAs from the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) are set to switch camps. This development is part of what insiders are calling 'Operation Tiger 30,' a strategy to expand the ruling coalition's legislative strength.
Claim of Over a Dozen MVA MLAs Defecting
Speaking to reporters, the Shinde loyalist stated, "We are in touch with at least 12 to 15 MLAs from the MVA who are ready to support our government. They are disillusioned with the opposition's lack of direction." The loyalist, who requested anonymity, added that the defections could happen within the next few weeks.
Operation Tiger 30: A Strategic Move
Operation Tiger 30 is reportedly a plan to bring 30 MLAs from the opposition into the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-Shiv Sena (Shinde faction) coalition. The operation aims to consolidate power and ensure the government's stability. The Shinde faction currently has 40 MLAs, and the BJP has 106, while the opposition MVA has 69 MLAs.
Political Impact and Reactions
If the defections materialize, the ruling coalition would cross the 150 mark in the 288-member assembly, making it nearly unassailable. Political analysts say this could trigger a realignment of forces in the state. The MVA, comprising the Congress, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), and Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray faction), has dismissed the claims as "wishful thinking." NCP chief spokesperson Clyde Crasto said, "Our MLAs are united and committed to the MVA. Such claims are baseless."
Background of Operation Tiger 30
Operation Tiger 30 is not new; similar attempts were made earlier this year when the Shinde faction came to power after a rebellion in June 2022. The operation is named after the 'Tiger' symbol of the Shiv Sena. The Shinde loyalist claimed that the operation is now in its final stage, with MLAs from all three MVA parties in touch.
Conclusion
As the political drama unfolds, all eyes are on the Maharashtra assembly. The coming weeks will reveal whether Operation Tiger 30 succeeds in reshaping the state's political landscape.
