Bihar Political Landscape Shifts as NDA Prepares for Leadership Change
Political momentum in Patna accelerated significantly on Saturday as the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) edged closer to a pivotal leadership transition in Bihar. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar engaged in a series of high-stakes meetings with senior leaders from both the Janata Dal (United) and the Bharatiya Janata Party to deliberate on the framework and composition of the incoming government.
Resignation Timeline and Swearing-In Ceremony Details Emerge
According to reliable sources within the alliance, Nitish Kumar is anticipated to tender his resignation as Chief Minister on either April 13 or 14. This decisive step is expected to follow his presiding over a final cabinet meeting. Subsequently, the swearing-in ceremony for the new BJP-led administration is projected to occur between April 14 and 16 at Lok Bhawan, marking a formal shift in the state's governance structure.
Intensive Consultations Define the Day's Political Agenda
The day was characterized by intense political consultations at the Chief Minister's official residence. Deputy Chief Ministers Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha convened with Nitish Kumar during the evening hours to address critical matters pertaining to the seamless transfer of power and the intricacies of government formation. Following this discussion, Vijay Kumar Sinha proceeded to Lok Bhawan for a substantive 30-minute meeting with Governor Ata Hasnain. Sinha maintained discretion, opting not to provide public comments regarding the content of either engagement.
Strategic Discussions on Government Architecture
Earlier in the day, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Vijay Kumar Choudhary and JD(U) National Working President Sanjay Jha held an extensive meeting with Nitish Kumar that spanned nearly two hours. Their dialogue is understood to have concentrated on the structural blueprint and ministerial composition of the forthcoming government, ensuring alignment with coalition objectives.
JD(U) State President Umesh Singh Kushwaha also paid a visit to the Chief Minister, later affirming that the new administration would operate under Nitish Kumar's continued guidance. Kushwaha emphasized that the state machinery is currently functioning under his leadership and that his influence will persist into the future. He assured that the media would receive comprehensive updates at the appropriate juncture.
Clarifications on Chief Ministerial Speculation
Amid widespread speculation regarding the next Chief Minister, senior BJP leader and Industries Minister Dilip Kumar Jaiswal clarified that he is not a contender for the top position. This statement aimed to quell rumors and redirect focus toward the collective decision-making process within the NDA.
SC/ST Welfare Minister Lakhendra Kumar Raushan, who also met with Nitish Kumar, reiterated that the next government would be established under the Chief Minister's stewardship. He highlighted that the final decision on the new Chief Minister would be made collectively by the NDA leadership, underscoring the alliance's cohesive approach.
Internal JD(U) Meeting Reinforces Party Unity
In a separate development, Nitish Kumar's son, Nishant Kumar, conducted a meeting with JD(U) legislators at the Chief Minister's residence. Notable attendees included Arun Manjhi, Bablu Mandal, Ramchandra Sada, Manish Kumar, and Pramod Singh. This gathering is seen as an effort to consolidate party support and ensure unity during the transitional phase.
The flurry of political activity in Patna underscores the NDA's concerted efforts to orchestrate a smooth and strategic transition of power in Bihar, with all eyes now on the imminent resignation and subsequent formation of a new government.
