NCP-SP to Contest All Maharashtra Civic Polls, Targets Mahayuti Ahead of Jan 15 Elections
NCP-SP to fight all Maharashtra civic polls on Jan 15

In a major political move ahead of crucial urban local body polls, the Sharad Pawar-led Nationalist Congress Party (NCP-SP) declared on Monday its intention to contest elections across all municipal corporations in Maharashtra. The party positioned itself as a people-focused alternative, aiming to make urban governance and everyday civic concerns the central theme of its campaign.

Election Commission's Schedule Welcomed

The party welcomed the Election Commission's announcement to hold municipal elections in the state on January 15. It described the polls as a vital step towards strengthening grassroots democracy and urban local self-governance. NCP-SP spokesperson Mahesh Tapase stated that the party is fully prepared to face the electorate under what he termed the "visionary and steadfast leadership" of veteran politician Sharad Pawar.

Campaign to Focus on Core Civic Issues

Tapase outlined that the party's campaign would revolve around the core principles of transparency, accountability, and sustainable urban development. He emphasized a sharp focus on pressing civic problems that affect residents daily.

The key issues highlighted include:

  • Urban infrastructure and development
  • Healthcare and public health systems
  • Quality of education
  • Reliable water supply
  • Employment generation

"These municipal elections give citizens an opportunity to assess the performance of those in power and to choose leadership that truly understands the complexities of urban challenges," Tapase said.

Direct Attack on Ruling Mahayuti Alliance

In a scathing critique of the state's ruling coalition, Tapase took a direct swipe at the Mahayuti alliance. He described the coalition as inherently unstable and predicted it would "sink under its own weight." He alleged that the alliance partners are engaged in constant internal competition, prioritizing political one-upmanship over public welfare.

"This internal power struggle will be clearly visible during the municipal elections, where allies will, in effect, be fighting one another," the NCP-SP spokesperson claimed. He further asserted that voters across Maharashtra are growing increasingly disillusioned with what he called opportunistic politics and are actively seeking experienced and credible leadership.

Confidence in Pawar's Leadership

Tapase expressed strong confidence in his party's prospects, linking their credibility directly to Sharad Pawar's legacy. "The NCP has consistently demonstrated these qualities under Sharad Pawar's leadership," he stated. He concluded by saying the party is ready to face the electorate with confidence, clarity, and commitment, believing that the upcoming polls will signal a decisive shift in Maharashtra's urban political landscape.

The announcement sets the stage for a highly competitive series of municipal elections, with the NCP-SP aiming to capitalize on civic discontent and present itself as the principal alternative to the current ruling combine.
