Major Fire Incident in Amaravati Destroys Infrastructure Materials
A significant fire accident caused widespread alarm on Seed Access Road in Amaravati on Wednesday, as flames rapidly consumed large stacks of PVC pipelines designated for critical infrastructure development in the capital region. The intense blaze sent thick plumes of smoke billowing into the sky, capturing the attention of commuters and residents in the vicinity.
Firefighters Battle Blaze for Hours
According to official reports, the PVC pipelines were stored at the location as part of ongoing development initiatives aimed at enhancing civic amenities in the capital city. The highly combustible nature of the costly PVC material allowed the fire to spread quickly and intensify. In response, seven fire engines were dispatched to the scene, where firefighters engaged in a prolonged battle lasting several hours before successfully bringing the situation under control.
Director General of Fire Services Venkata Ramana confirmed that the fire was eventually contained and, fortunately, no casualties were reported. However, preliminary assessments indicate that the damage to the stored materials is substantial, representing a significant loss for the infrastructure project.
Government Orders Investigation into Cause
In the aftermath of the incident, the Andhra Pradesh government has ordered a comprehensive inquiry to determine the exact cause of the fire. State Home Minister Vangalapudi Anitha has directed officials to investigate whether the blaze was purely accidental or if any foul play or negligence was involved. Representatives from L&T, the company involved in the project, suggested that preliminary findings point to the fire originating from a nearby electric pole. It is reported that dry grass surrounding the pole caught fire and subsequently spread to the stacked pipelines.
Forensic Team and Eyewitness Accounts
A forensic team has been deployed to the site to collect evidence and meticulously examine the circumstances surrounding the incident. Eyewitnesses have claimed that the flames were first noticed from the Polala side, while local residents have expressed various doubts and concerns regarding how the fire began. The investigation aims to address these uncertainties and provide a clear understanding of the events leading to the fire.
This incident underscores the importance of stringent safety measures in infrastructure projects, particularly when storing flammable materials. The ongoing probe by the Andhra Pradesh government is expected to yield insights that could prevent similar occurrences in the future.
