BRS Leader KTR Condemns Speaker's Decision on Defected MLAs as 'Undemocratic'

In a sharp rebuke, BRS working president KT Rama Rao has strongly condemned the decision by assembly speaker G Prasad Kumar to dismiss disqualification petitions against defected MLAs, labeling it as undemocratic and shocking. Speaking to the media at Telangana Bhavan on Wednesday, KTR alleged that the speaker acted under tremendous pressure from Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, accusing the party leadership of orchestrating the entire episode.

Allegations of Political Manipulation and Constitutional Assault

KTR asserted that the speaker had virtually no independence in the matter, describing the decision as a direct assault on democracy and the Constitution. He claimed that Rahul Gandhi is the principal architect behind this unethical move, stating, "The main perpetrator and the criminal mind behind this decision is Rahul Gandhi. He is the real culprit. Without his permission and approval, the speaker would never have dared to take such a shocking decision."

Questioning the Legitimacy of Defected MLAs

KTR raised critical questions about the integrity of the process, highlighting the case of an MLA who won on a BRS B-Form but contested as a Congress candidate in the Lok Sabha elections without resigning from the assembly. He pointed out that despite clear evidence from Election Commission records showing the MLA's use of different B-Forms for assembly and parliamentary contests, the speaker refused to disqualify him. "This is nothing short of political manipulation," KTR emphasized, adding, "All the evidence is already in the public domain. What further inquiry is needed?"

Criticism of Rahul Gandhi's Hypocrisy

KTR questioned the moral authority of Rahul Gandhi and the Congress party to speak about defections, accusing them of hypocrisy. He noted that while Rahul Gandhi carries the Constitution and claims to be its protector, his party is simultaneously enabling defections and protecting defectors. "Rahul Gandhi and Congress have absolutely no moral right to lecture anyone about political defections," KTR stated, criticizing the Congress leader for promoting the 'Nyay Patra' and speaking about automatic disqualification in Telangana, yet allowing the Congress government to shield defectors.

Implications for Telangana Politics

This controversy underscores the ongoing political tensions in Telangana, with KTR's remarks reflecting broader concerns about democratic norms and constitutional integrity. The BRS leader's forceful condemnation signals a deepening rift between the party and the Congress-led administration, potentially impacting future legislative and electoral dynamics in the state.
