House Gutted in Fire at Thiruvananthapuram, Occupants Escape Unhurt

A devastating fire completely destroyed a small two-room house in Punnam Karikkakom near Kattakada, Thiruvananthapuram, on Friday. Fortunately, the occupants, Sridevi and her husband, managed to escape without any injuries.

Fire Suspected to Have Originated from Cooking Stove

Preliminary investigations indicate that the blaze likely started from the stove while cooking was in progress. Sridevi and her husband were inside the house at the time but noticed the flames early and evacuated safely.

By the time fire and rescue services arrived, the fire had already engulfed the entire structure. The intense flames consumed most household items, including furniture, appliances, and personal belongings.

Important Documents and Cash Destroyed in the Blaze

The fire resulted in significant material losses. Cash, important personal documents, and other valuable papers were completely destroyed in the incident.

Most notably, documents related to Sridevi's application for the LIFE housing scheme were lost in the fire. Officials confirmed that Sridevi's name was included in the list for the LIFE (Livelihood, Inclusion, Financial Empowerment) housing scheme, and the destruction of these documents creates additional challenges for the family.

Fire and Rescue Services Respond Promptly

Fire and rescue services personnel from the Kattakada station responded quickly to the emergency call. Station officer Manu led the rescue operations with assistance from grade station officer Sajeendran and other officers.

The team worked diligently to bring the fire under control and prevent it from spreading to neighboring properties. Their prompt response helped contain what could have been an even more disastrous situation.

Investigation Underway, Family Faces Rebuilding Challenge

Authorities have launched a thorough investigation into the exact cause of the fire. While preliminary information points to the cooking stove as the likely source, officials are examining all possibilities to determine the precise origin.

The family now faces the daunting task of rebuilding their lives from scratch. The loss of the LIFE housing scheme documents adds an additional layer of complexity to their recovery process, as these documents were crucial for their housing assistance application.

This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of fire safety measures in residential properties, particularly in smaller homes where fires can spread rapidly. Community support and government assistance will be essential for the affected family as they navigate this challenging period.
