Karnataka Home Minister Dr. G Parameshwara stated on Friday that the law and order situation in the state remains stable. This declaration comes just ahead of the crucial winter session of the state legislature, scheduled to be held in Belagavi from December 8.
Government Prepares Data-Driven Defence
Parameshwara emphasized that he will present a detailed and "reasonable" account of the state's security situation to the assembly. He pointed to official statistics to back the government's assessment. "I am not saying no incidents have occurred," the Home Minister clarified. "I will explain how things were when they (BJP) were in power and how they are now."
His strategy involves a multi-pronged data presentation. He plans to place before the House comparative figures from BJP-ruled states, details from the previous BJP government's tenure in Karnataka, and information covering the past two years under the Congress administration.
Addressing Specific Incidents and Allegations
Parameshwara directly addressed the controversy surrounding incidents at the Central Prison in Parappana Agrahara, Bengaluru. He accused the opposition of circulating old videos and misrepresenting them as recent events. "When something happened during our tenure, we took appropriate action," he stated, promising to provide a clear timeline and details of every such incident and alleged fake video.
On the fresh murder of a Congress worker in Chikkamagaluru district reported on Friday, the Home Minister said local police are actively investigating the case. Regarding the sensitive Dharmasthala mass burial case, he indicated the government is prepared to explain its stand if the matter is raised. "The special investigation team has submitted its report to the court and to the govt. There is nothing to hide," he asserted.
Gearing Up for a Heated Session
The stage is set for a confrontational session, with the opposition BJP and JD(S) expected to aggressively target the Congress government over a recent series of murders and robberies. To ensure a coordinated response, the Congress legislature party is holding a meeting on Tuesday. Parameshwara clarified that this meeting would guide MLAs and ministers on how to respond to the opposition during discussions, focusing solely on legislative matters without delving into political issues.
The Home Minister's pre-session briefing signals the Congress government's intent to proactively counter the opposition's narrative with comparative data and specific clarifications, turning the winter session into a debate on hard facts and governance records.
