Kannada Activists in Belagavi Intensify Push for Pro-Karnataka Resolutions

Activists representing various Kannada organizations convened a significant meeting in Belagavi on Monday, reaffirming their commitment to advancing the rights and demands of the Kannada community. The gathering, chaired by senior Kannada activist Ashok Chandaragi, focused on strategic actions to secure pro-Karnataka resolutions within the Belagavi City Corporation (BCC).

Key Decisions and Strategic Moves

During the meeting, participants expressed optimism following assurances from Deputy Mayor Hanumant Kongali regarding the adoption of resolutions favorable to Karnataka. In response, the activists outlined a multi-pronged approach to escalate their efforts.

Delegation to Bengaluru: A crucial decision was made to dispatch a 12-member delegation of Kannada organization representatives to Bengaluru in the second week of April. This delegation aims to engage directly with key state officials, including the Chief Minister, the Border Affairs Minister, and the State Chief Secretary, to advocate for their demands.

Memorandum Submission: Starting Tuesday, like-minded pro-Kannada groups will separately submit memorandums to the Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Belagavi. These documents will formally request the passage of two specific resolutions in the BCC:

  • The affirmation that the 'Mahajana Report on the border dispute is final.'
  • The declaration that 'Belagavi is an integral part of Karnataka.'

Broader Context and Implications

The meeting underscored the ongoing struggle for Kannada rights, particularly in the context of the longstanding border dispute involving Belagavi. Activists emphasized the importance of institutional support from the BCC to reinforce Karnataka's stance on territorial integrity.

This coordinated effort highlights the persistent advocacy by Kannada organizations to influence local governance and state policy, ensuring their voices are heard at the highest levels of administration.
