Former Chief Minister and Janata Dal (Secular) leader H D Kumaraswamy has announced that he will be present at Byramangala on June 27, hoping that Chief Minister D K Shivakumar will join him there to directly address the concerns of farmers regarding the proposed Bidadi township project.
Speaking to reporters, Kumaraswamy said, “I will be present at Byramangala on June 27, hoping the chief minister will join me there to directly address the fears farmers have been facing over the proposed Bidadi township project.”
Background of the Bidadi Township Project
The Bidadi township project, envisioned as a large-scale integrated township on the outskirts of Bengaluru, has been a subject of debate and controversy. Farmers in the Byramangala area have expressed apprehensions about land acquisition and compensation, leading to protests and demands for clarity from the government.
Political Implications
Kumaraswamy’s invitation to Chief Minister Shivakumar is seen as a move to foster bipartisan cooperation on a key development initiative. The project, which aims to decongest Bengaluru by creating a self-sustained satellite town, has been stalled due to opposition from local farmers and political disagreements.
The Chief Minister’s office has not yet confirmed Shivakumar’s attendance at the event. However, sources indicate that the government is keen to resolve the impasse and move forward with the project, which promises economic growth and infrastructure development in the region.
Farmers’ Concerns
Farmers in Byramangala have raised issues over inadequate compensation and lack of transparency in the land acquisition process. They have demanded a fair rehabilitation package and assurance of livelihood post-acquisition. Kumaraswamy’s intervention is aimed at bridging the gap between the government and the affected landowners.
The proposed township is expected to include residential, commercial, and industrial zones, along with green spaces and public amenities. It is part of a broader plan to expand Bengaluru’s urban footprint and alleviate pressure on the city’s infrastructure.
Next Steps
Kumaraswamy has urged the Chief Minister to use his authority to address the farmers’ grievances and ensure a smooth rollout of the project. The outcome of the June 27 meeting could determine the future trajectory of the Bidadi township initiative and set a precedent for land acquisition in other parts of the state.
