DMK Councillor Brutally Murdered in Trichy, Police Launch Investigation
A 38-year-old DMK functionary and town panchayat ward councillor was brutally hacked to death by an armed gang near Trichy on Monday night. The incident has sent shockwaves through the local community, with police swiftly launching an investigation to apprehend the perpetrators.
Victim Identified as A. Ranjith Kumar
The victim has been identified as A. Ranjith Kumar, 38, a resident of Bharathipuram in Koothappar, Thiruverumbur block, Trichy district. He served as the councillor for Ward 11 of Koothappar Town Panchayat and held the position of youth wing secretary for the DMK's town panchayat unit in Thiruverumbur.
Details of the Fatal Attack
According to police sources, Ranjith Kumar was returning home on his two-wheeler around 10 pm on Monday. While passing through Puthu Theru near Navalpattu, a gang on motorcycles waylaid him. The assailants, armed with sharp weapons, launched a vicious attack, striking him multiple times on various parts of his body before fleeing the scene. Ranjith Kumar collapsed in a pool of blood and succumbed to his injuries on the spot.
Police Response and Investigation
Navalpattu police rushed to the scene upon receiving information and immediately sent the body to Trichy Government Hospital for a post-mortem examination. A forensic team and a dog squad were deployed to collect crucial evidence from the crime scene.
Trichy District Superintendent of Police S. Selva Nagarathinam, along with other senior officials, visited the site to oversee the initial investigation. Special teams have been formed to track down and apprehend the perpetrators involved in this heinous crime.
Possible Motive and Legal Action
Sources indicate that Ranjith Kumar operated a bar attached to a government TASMAC shop opposite the Government ITI in Thiruverumbur. Police suspect that business rivalry may have been the motive behind the murder. As of Tuesday, several individuals have been detained for questioning, and investigations are actively ongoing.
Navalpattu police have registered a case under Section 101 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for murder. The authorities are leaving no stone unturned in their efforts to bring the culprits to justice and ensure swift legal action.
