Damaged Footpath in Hyderabad's Hitec City Endangers Pedestrians for Months
A hazardous section of footpath near the ITC Kohenur in Hitec City, Hyderabad, has remained damaged for three to four months, creating significant safety risks and inconvenience for pedestrians and office workers in this bustling technology hub. The 100-metre stretch, located close to a footbridge, features several uneven and missing slabs along a row of IT offices, forcing many to walk on the road amid heavy traffic, particularly during peak hours.
Pedestrian Complaints Highlight Daily Dangers
Local residents and employees have voiced concerns about the deteriorating condition, noting that the situation worsens at night and during rainfall. Open gaps between slabs, accumulated debris, and stagnant water make safe passage difficult, increasing the risk of trips and falls. An IT employee, Sai Teja, a software engineer, shared his experience: "Many of us walk from the foot overbridge bus stop to our offices. Since the slabs are broken, we have to step onto the road where vehicles pass at high speed. It gets unsafe, especially during rush hours."
Authorities Criticized for Delayed Repairs
Another IT professional, Swati Vasireddy, pointed out that the issue has been neglected for months despite the area being a busy tech hub with thousands of daily users. "The authorities should repair the footpath soon so that pedestrians can walk safely. I noticed GHMC workers here sometimes putting soil over it, but the stretch remains far from complete," she said. A frequent pedestrian added that rain exacerbates the problem by filling gaps with water, obscuring broken slabs and heightening accident risks.
Calls for Immediate Civic Action
Residents and office-goers are urgently appealing to civic authorities to address the damaged footpath promptly to ensure safe movement. The persistent neglect underscores broader concerns about infrastructure maintenance in high-traffic urban areas, emphasizing the need for timely interventions to protect public safety.
