CPI Slams BJP's Women's Reservation Bill as 'Cheap Drama'

CPI Leader Accuses BJP of Insincerity on Women's Reservation

In a sharp critique from Thrissur, CPI state secretary Binoy Viswam on Friday launched a scathing attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), alleging that the party lacks genuine commitment to elevating the status of women in India. Viswam specifically targeted the controversial women's reservation bill, branding it as merely one of the many political gimmicks practiced by the saffron party-led government.

Women's Reservation Bill Labeled a 'Despicable Farce'

Viswam did not mince words when addressing the media, stating, "BJP is enacting the most despicable farce by bringing this women's reservation bill. It is only a cheap drama being staged with an intention to corner votes, and it is a total betrayal of women's cause." He further elaborated that the hidden objective behind the bill is to implement delimitation processes that could marginalize south Indian states, thereby undermining regional representation in favor of political maneuvering.

The CPI leader raised pointed questions about the BJP's alignment with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), noting that the RSS does not grant membership to women. "BJP is being controlled by RSS, which is an organisation that doesn't give membership to women. How can such a political outfit claim that they stand for women's cause?" Viswam asked, challenging the party's credibility on gender equality matters.

Viswam Criticizes Congress for Power Struggles

Turning his attention to the Congress party, Viswam accused it of being driven solely by a hunger for power. He highlighted internal conflicts within Congress, where intense battles for the chief minister's post were reportedly underway even before the election results were announced. "In fact, there is only one post of chief minister in the state, but Congress leaders are vying with each other to divide CM's chair into three. UDF is keen to enjoy power," he remarked, suggesting that the United Democratic Front (UDF) is more focused on political gains than public service.

Confidence in LDF's Electoral Performance

Despite the criticisms, Viswam expressed optimism regarding the Left Democratic Front's (LDF) prospects in the recently concluded assembly polls. Based on reports gathered by party units and LDF cadres, he asserted that the front is poised to secure a comfortable majority, indicating strong grassroots support and effective campaigning efforts.

This dual-pronged attack on both BJP and Congress underscores the CPI's strategic positioning in Kerala's political landscape, as it seeks to highlight perceived insincerities and power plays while bolstering its own electoral narrative.
