A suicide note recovered in connection with the death of a 48-year-old man in Kerala's capital district has triggered a police investigation, with the deceased reportedly naming a Congress councillor of the Neyyattinkara municipality. The incident, which came to light on Monday, has prompted authorities to summon the councillor for questioning.
Suicide Note Alleges Councillor's Role
The suicide note pointedly accused the councillor, identified as Praveen, also known as Gramam Praveen, of destroying his family. The deceased, Dileep Kumar, stated that he was ending his life due to the immense mental pain and stress caused. Kumar, a resident of Neyyattinkara, had been running a mobile phone shop in the town for over ten years.
Grim Discovery and Family's Suspicion
The body of Dileep Kumar was discovered in a grim state early on Sunday morning. Passersby noticed the body hanging from a tree in a field near the Bus Stand Junction around 6 am and immediately alerted the police. Officers reached the spot and recovered the body. While preliminary observations indicated death by hanging, police emphasized that all aspects are being thoroughly examined.
However, the victim's brother, Ratheesh Kumar, has raised serious doubts over the initial assessment, terming the death suspicious. In a formal statement to the police, he demanded a comprehensive and transparent investigation to rule out any foul play. According to relatives and neighbours, Dileep had left his home on Saturday evening but did not return. When he failed to come back by night, family members began a search, which led to the tragic discovery the next morning at a location several kilometres away from his shop.
Police Probe and Ongoing Investigation
The Neyyattinkara police have registered a case and are proceeding with further legal procedures. They confirmed that councillor Praveen will be summoned for questioning as part of their detailed probe. While police are looking into possible angles such as financial stress and other personal issues, they have not officially confirmed any motive behind the death. No conclusions have been drawn yet.
After the completion of the autopsy on Monday, the body was handed over to the grieving family. The case continues to develop as investigators piece together the events leading to the tragedy based on the allegations in the suicide note and other evidence.
