BJP's Debasis Ojha Wins Jaynagar Seat by Narrow Margin

NEW DELHI: In the Jaynagar assembly constituency, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Debasis Ojha, also known as Haku Da, secured a narrow victory by polling 1,06,402 votes. He defeated Trinamool Congress (TMC) candidate Abhijit Sinha, commonly referred to as Rana, by a slim margin of 3,550 votes.

Close Contest Throughout Counting

The contest remained closely fought throughout the counting process, with both candidates locked in a tight race. Sinha secured 1,02,852 votes but ultimately fell short, finishing second in one of the tighter battles in the constituency. The narrow margin highlighted the intense competition between the two major parties in this Scheduled Caste (SC) reserved seat.

At present, Biswanath Das of the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) is the sitting MLA from Jaynagar. He won the seat in the 2021 assembly election by securing 51.85% of the total votes polled, followed by BJP candidate Rabin Sardar, who received 32.74% of the votes. Biswanath Das also represented the constituency in the previous election, having won the seat in 2016 as an AITC candidate. Earlier, the constituency was won by Tarun Kanti Naskar of the Socialist Unity Centre of India (Communist) [SUCI(C)] in 2011.
