BJP Threatens Hazaribag Bandh Over Girl's Death; Police SIT Investigates
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has issued a stern warning to authorities in Hazaribag, threatening to enforce a complete bandh (shutdown) on Monday if those responsible for the death of a 12-year-old girl are not apprehended promptly. This announcement was made by state party president and Rajya Sabha MP Aditya Sahu on Friday, following his visit to the bereaved family to offer condolences.
Details of the Tragic Incident
The girl's body was discovered on Wednesday in a secluded area near her village, sending shockwaves through the local community. According to reports, she was last seen on Tuesday night participating in the Mangala julus, a celebratory procession as part of Ram Navami festivities. After dancing during the event, she went missing, and her disappearance sparked immediate concern among villagers and authorities alike.
Political Demands and Bandh Call
Aditya Sahu expressed strong condemnation of the incident, stating, "We condemn the incident in the strongest terms. If the police fail to arrest the culprits soon, we will call for a Hazaribag bandh on Monday to demand justice." This sentiment was echoed by Hazaribag MP Manish Jaiswal, who backed the bandh call and emphasized the party's demand for the arrest of the perpetrators within a strict 48-hour timeframe.
Police Investigation and SIT Efforts
In response to the growing pressure, a special investigation team (SIT) has been formed to probe the case, headed by SDPO B N Prasad. Prasad provided an update on the investigation, noting, "Efforts are ongoing to crack the case swiftly. We have received some crucial inputs regarding the culprits, and our police teams are actively working on these leads to apprehend them as soon as possible." The SIT's formation underscores the seriousness with which authorities are treating the matter, amid public outcry.
Community Outcry and Demands
The tragedy has galvanized the local community, with villagers staging protests and demanding capital punishment for those found guilty. In a show of solidarity and grief, residents organized a candlelight procession after the crime came to light, highlighting the deep emotional impact of the incident on the area. The collective demand for justice reflects widespread anger and a call for swift action to prevent such occurrences in the future.
As the investigation continues, all eyes are on the police to deliver results before the threatened bandh, which could disrupt normal life in Hazaribag. The BJP's firm stance adds a political dimension to the case, potentially influencing the pace and outcome of the probe.
