Nashik: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)–Shiv Sena alliance achieved a clean sweep in the elections for all six ward committee chairperson positions of the Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC). All candidates were elected unopposed across the panels, reflecting the alliance's dominance in the civic body.
BJP Secures Five Posts, Shiv Sena Gets One
The BJP claimed five chairperson posts, while the Shiv Sena secured one. In contrast, the opposition parties, including Shiv Sena (UBT) and Congress, failed to win a single seat due to insufficient numbers. The newly elected chairpersons will serve a tenure of one year.
Election Process
The elections were conducted at the civic body's headquarters, Rajiv Gandhi Bhavan, on Friday under the supervision of Divisional Additional Commissioner Ajy More, who served as the election officer. In four ward committees—Nashik West, Panchavati, Satpur, and Cidco—only BJP candidates had filed nominations, as the opposition refrained from contesting due to their lack of strength. Consequently, BJP nominees were declared elected unopposed:
- Suresh Patil from Nashik West
- Rohini Pingle from Panchavati
- Samadhan Deore from Satpur
- Balkrishna Shirsat from Cidco
Nashik East and Nashik Road
In Nashik East, BJP's Mangala Nannavare and Congress candidate Attar Naziya Zakir had initially filed nominations. However, the Congress candidate withdrew within the stipulated time, paving the way for Nannavare's unopposed victory. As part of the alliance arrangement, the Nashik Road ward committee was allotted to the Shiv Sena. The party fielded Ramesh Dhongde, while the UBT initially nominated Pramila Maind. With the alliance enjoying a clear majority, Maind withdrew his nomination before the deadline, allowing Dhongde to be elected unopposed as the chairperson of the Nashik Road ward committee.
This sweeping victory underscores the political strength of the BJP–Shiv Sena alliance in Nashik, leaving the opposition with no representation in the ward committees.
