BJP Stages Statewide Protests in Jharkhand Over Power Rate Hikes and Irregular Billing
BJP Protests in Jharkhand Over Electricity Issues, Congress Responds

BJP Launches Statewide Agitation Against Jharkhand's Electricity Woes

Opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday organized coordinated stirs and sit-in demonstrations across multiple districts in Jharkhand, vehemently protesting against what they termed as a steep and unjustifiable hike in electricity rates, frequent power cuts, and highly irregular billing practices associated with postpaid meters. The protests highlighted growing public discontent over the state's power supply management.

Ranchi Demonstration at JBVNL Office Draws Political Leaders

In the state capital Ranchi, a significant sit-in protest was strategically organized directly in front of the Jharkhand Bijli Vitran Nigam Limited (JBVNL) office located in Doranda. This demonstration witnessed active participation from several BJP MLAs, local party workers, and supporters, amplifying the political pressure on the ruling administration.

Ranchi MLA C P Singh, addressing the gathered crowd, launched a scathing critique, asserting that the entire power supply system within Jharkhand has effectively collapsed. "The common public is being forced to pay substantially more without receiving any corresponding value for their money. Incorrect and wildly erratic bills are further placing an unbearable additional financial burden on citizens, and the state government appears least concerned," Singh declared. He issued a stern warning, stating that the BJP would significantly intensify its agitation campaigns if the situation does not show marked and immediate improvement.

Allegations of Negligence and Impact on Families

Hatia MLA Naveen Jaiswal leveled serious allegations, directly blaming the electricity department's negligence and embedded corruption for the prevailing crisis. "Due to these failures, incorrect bills are being systematically dispatched in the name of postpaid meters, a practice that disproportionately and severely affects poor and middle-class families," Jaiswal alleged. He issued an ultimatum, warning that if the government fails to wake up and address these grievances promptly, the BJP would mobilize to completely shut down the electricity department's operations across the state.

Echoing these concerns, Ranchi Mahanagar president Varun Sahu detailed the disruptive impact on daily life. "The erratic and unreliable power supply in our city has thoroughly disrupted normal public life. Business operations, educational activities, and routine household work are all being adversely affected on a daily basis," Sahu emphasized, painting a picture of widespread civic inconvenience.

Congress Counterattack and Defense of Government Record

Reacting swiftly to the BJP's protests, Congress spokesperson Rakesh Sinha mounted a strong counteroffensive, dismissing the agitation as politically motivated. "The BJP has now become a party devoid of credible issues here in Jharkhand. In stark contrast to their own tenure, the coverage of the electricity network has considerably expanded and improved, and so have the overall services," Sinha claimed.

He defended the current government's efforts, stating, "Our government is working tirelessly, 24/7, to further enhance and refine these essential services for all citizens." Sinha concluded by redirecting the critique toward the central government, suggesting, "BJP workers should instead be questioning the Modi-led central government for its policies that have pushed the entire country into a prolonged phase of high inflation."

The political clash underscores the electricity sector's emergence as a major battleground in Jharkhand's state politics, with the BJP seeking to capitalize on public grievances over utility services, while the ruling Congress-JMM alliance defends its developmental record and shifts focus to national economic issues.
