BJP Corporator Attacked in Lucknow, Gun Misfires

A Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) corporator in Lucknow narrowly escaped a fatal shooting after a country-made pistol malfunctioned during a violent ambush. The shocking incident occurred in the Gosainganj area on Friday night, leaving the public representative with serious injuries.

Pre-Planned Assault on Nagar Panchayat Corporator

According to the police, the victim is Akhilesh Gupta, a corporator of the Gosainganj Nagar Panchayat. The attack was reportedly pre-planned. Gupta's brother, Shubham Gupta, filed a formal complaint stating that a group of armed men lay in wait for the corporator.

The complaint names Sudhir Bhatt, Shravan Bhatt, Mohammad Rashid, and two to three other unidentified accomplices as the attackers. The assailants allegedly used iron rods and sharp-edged weapons to assault Akhilesh Gupta, causing significant harm to his hands and legs.

Close Call as Country-Made Pistol Fails to Fire

In a dramatic turn of events, one of the attackers attempted to shoot the corporator with a country-made pistol. However, in what may have been a life-saving malfunction, the bullet failed to discharge. This weapon failure potentially prevented a murder. Following the assault, the injured corporator was rushed to a medical facility for urgent treatment.

Police Action and Ongoing Investigation

Law enforcement responded promptly to the incident. Dilesh Kumar Singh, the Station House Officer (SHO) of Gosainganj police station, confirmed that a First Information Report (FIR) has been registered based on the complaint.

Police have arrested three of the named accused in connection with the violent attack. Investigators are currently conducting raids and pursuing leads to apprehend the remaining suspects involved in the case. The motive behind the targeted attack is under active investigation.
