BJP Leader Annamalai Frames Tamil Nadu Election as Direct NDA vs DMK Battle

In a series of campaign events across Trichy, Thanjavur, and Tiruvarur districts, BJP state president K Annamalai declared on Sunday that the Tamil Nadu assembly election has solidified into a clear two-cornered contest between the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and the DMK-led coalition. He emphasized that the political landscape has shifted decisively over the past two weeks, transforming the race into a straightforward face-off.

Annamalai Criticizes Vijay's Promises and Campaign Tactics

Addressing the media near Thanjavur, Annamalai took aim at actor-turned-politician Vijay, dismissing his electoral pledges as unrealistic. His assurances go far beyond Tamil Nadu's budget. People are watching, he stated, suggesting that Vijay's entry might carve out a new vote bank but would not dent the NDA's prospects. Annamalai also raised alarms about alleged unethical campaign practices, claiming that pamphlets were being distributed outside churches to favor specific parties. Places of worship must remain neutral and accessible to all. Such acts violate the Constitution and election rules, he asserted, calling for integrity in the electoral process.

Women's Reservation Bill and Opposition Criticism

Campaigning vigorously in Srirangam and other areas, Annamalai targeted opposition parties, including the DMK and Congress, accusing them of obstructing the Women's Reservation Bill when tied to delimitation exercises. He expressed unwavering confidence in Prime Minister Narendra Modi's commitment, stating, Those who know Prime Minister Modi understand he does not give up once he takes up an issue. Thirty-three percent reservation for women is certain by the 2029 general election. He urged voters to reject the DMK and Congress, framing the election as a choice between stability and development, which he likened to a wedding procession.

Alliance Dynamics and Campaign Observations

Annamalai further highlighted what he described as a fragmented DMK-led alliance, noting that its partners have been critical of the government's performance. He pointed out that Chief Minister M K Stalin and Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi have not campaigned together in any district, suggesting internal discord. This, he argued, underscores the NDA's cohesive strategy and appeal to voters seeking reliable governance.
