Amit Shah on Record Turnout in Bengal: TMC's Corruption Sun Has Set
Amit Shah: Record Turnout in Bengal Marks End of TMC Era

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday hailed the record voter turnout in the second phase of the West Bengal assembly elections, saying that it marks the beginning of the end for the Trinamool Congress (TMC) government. In a series of tweets, Shah asserted that the high polling percentage reflects the people's desire for change and their rejection of the TMC's misrule.

Shah's Reaction to High Voter Turnout

Shah wrote, 'The record voter turnout in Bengal today is a clear indication that the sun of the TMC's corruption and hooliganism has set. The people of Bengal have made up their minds to oust the TMC government and bring a double-engine government of the BJP.' He further added that the enthusiasm among voters, especially women and youth, is a testament to the faith in Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership.

BJP's Campaign Strategy

The BJP has been aggressively campaigning in West Bengal, with top leaders like Shah and Modi holding multiple rallies. The party has focused on issues like corruption, law and order, and the alleged appeasement politics of the TMC. Shah's statement comes as the second phase of polling covering 30 constituencies in six districts recorded an estimated 79% turnout, surpassing the 2016 figure.

TMC's Response

The TMC, however, dismissed Shah's claims, saying that the high turnout is a sign of the people's support for Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's development agenda. Party spokesperson Kunal Ghosh said, 'The people of Bengal have rejected the BJP's divisive politics and will once again vote for development and secularism.'

Political Analysts Weigh In

Political analysts believe that the high turnout could benefit the BJP, as it indicates a motivated voter base. However, they caution that it is too early to predict the final outcome. The elections in West Bengal are being held in eight phases, with results expected on May 2.

Shah's remarks have set the tone for the remaining phases, with both parties intensifying their campaigns. The BJP is hopeful of a significant gain in seats, while the TMC aims to retain its stronghold. With the record turnout in the second phase, the battle for Bengal has become even more intense.
