Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation Repurposes Land for Major Sports Enclave Project
In a strategic move to facilitate the ambitious Rs 5,050 crore Sardar Patel Sports Enclave project, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has approved a proposal to change the purpose of four plots originally designated for parks and urban forests. This decision, made during a standing committee meeting on Friday, aims to acquire land around the Narendra Modi Stadium without incurring additional expenditure.
Land Use Amendment Details
The AMC has modified the Sabarmati TP Scheme No. 23, reclassifying four plots totaling 56,845 square metres from recreational areas to social infrastructure. An AMC official confirmed, "The proposal for the fourth amendment in Sabarmati TP Scheme No. 23 has been approved, changing the purpose of these plots to social infrastructure. This will enable land availability for constructing the Sardar Patel Sports Enclave, and the allocation process will now begin."
Comprehensive Land Acquisition Strategy
Authorities have identified over 21 government and private plots for acquisition to support the enclave project. An official from the Ahmedabad Urban Development Authority (Auda) stated, "Planning is underway to acquire 4-5 lakh square metres of land around the Narendra Modi Stadium at no extra cost. The AMC has initiated amendments to related TP schemes to acquire these plots." The land includes areas from Sabarmati TP Scheme No. 23, Motera TP Scheme No. 21, and Motera TP Scheme No. 48.
Future Steps and Project Implications
A source added, "A significant portion of the land is government-owned. The purpose of plots in other TP schemes will also be altered, and re-allocation of privately owned open plots is being planned. Once all land is secured, tenders for constructing the enclave will be floated." This initiative underscores AMC's commitment to enhancing sports infrastructure in Ahmedabad while optimizing resource utilization.
