The Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court on Friday issued a stay on the further joining of successful candidates under the RO-ARO Recruitment Examination 2023. This decision comes amid a dispute over the implementation of reservation in the selection process. The bench, comprising Justice Rajan Roy and Justice Manjeev Shukla, has scheduled the next hearing for May 12.
The order was passed on a special appeal filed by Vivek Yadav and other petitioners. They challenged the February 1, 2026 order of a single judge bench, which had refused to grant interim relief on their petition. The petitioners' lawyer, Alok Mishra, argued that the appellants belong to the Other Backward Classes (OBC) category and had secured marks in the preliminary examination that were higher than at least 25 candidates from the general category who were selected for the mains examination. Despite this, the appellants were declared unsuccessful in the preliminary test.
Opposing the plea, the state government and the Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission informed the court that most successful candidates under the recruitment process had already been appointed. The court, however, decided to stay further joining until the next hearing.
This development has significant implications for the candidates and the recruitment process. The dispute highlights the ongoing challenges in implementing reservation policies fairly. The next hearing on May 12 will be crucial in determining the future course of action.
