Akhilesh Yadav Slams BJP's Cabinet Expansion as 2027 Poll Gimmick
Akhilesh Yadav: BJP Cabinet Expansion a Poll Gimmick

Samajwadi Party (SP) president Akhilesh Yadav launched a sharp attack on the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday, labelling its plans for a cabinet expansion as a mere election gimmick. Addressing party workers in Lucknow, the former Chief Minister accused the BJP of employing diversionary tactics to shift public focus away from pressing governance failures as the state gears up for the 2027 assembly elections.

An Election Ploy, Not Genuine Governance

Akhilesh Yadav asserted that the BJP's sudden urgency to induct new ministers is a calculated move to warm up to voters from specific castes. He claimed the BJP government has primarily catered to select communities over the years and is now realizing it needs broader support with polls on the horizon. "So now they will induct ministers from different castes to lure the members of the respective communities," Yadav stated, questioning the sincerity behind the move. He expressed confidence in the electorate's discernment, adding, "But people are much more intelligent than what the BJP thinks. They can see through such designs."

SP's Grassroots Strategy for 2027

In his address at the party headquarters, Yadav outlined a meticulous plan for the Samajwadi Party to counter the BJP's tactics. He urged cadre to begin intensive groundwork immediately, emphasizing that efforts throughout 2026 would directly impact the 2027 results. His instructions were clear: strengthen booth-level committees, reach out to the common man, and highlight both the failures of the current BJP regime and the welfare achievements of the previous SP government. He also stressed the importance of communicating the party's future schemes for public welfare.

Focusing on Public Grievances

Akhilesh Yadav pinpointed several critical issues plaguing the grassroots that his party plans to leverage. He cited widespread corruption in government departments, a deteriorating law and order situation, and a rising crime graph as major public concerns. Beyond these, he highlighted the severe distress among farmers, rising unemployment worrying the youth, and the struggle for survival faced by traders and small businesses. "We need to assure them that their concerns will be addressed once SP is voted to form the government in the 2027 assembly polls," he told his party functionaries, directing them to actively help people in distress.

The SP chief's combative stance sets the stage for a prolonged political battle in Uttar Pradesh, with the cabinet expansion plan becoming the latest flashpoint between the principal opposition party and the ruling BJP.
