Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Ajit Pawar, has given a firm assurance that development projects in the minority-dominated town of Miraj will not face delays due to financial constraints. The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief made these remarks while addressing party workers in Miraj on Friday.
New Portfolios, Fresh Assurances
Ajit Pawar recently took charge of key ministries, including minorities development and Waqf. These portfolios were previously held by convicted former minister Manikrao Kokate. Pawar is now also responsible for sports and youth welfare.
Addressing the gathering, Pawar referenced past initiatives, citing the sanction of funds for a famous religious shrine in Miraj during the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) regime when Nawab Malik held the portfolio. He pointed out that despite the allocation, the work did not progress as expected.
"Now, just yesterday, the portfolios of minorities development and Waqf properties, along with sports and youth welfare, have been transferred to me," Pawar stated. "I assure that works will not stall due to a shortage of funds."
Focus on Miraj's Political Landscape
Miraj forms a significant part of the Sangli Miraj Kupwad Municipal Corporation. Out of the total 78 seats in the corporation, 23 seats are within Miraj town itself, highlighting its importance in the region's political dynamics.
While providing assurances on development, Pawar sidestepped questions regarding the upcoming electoral strategy. He declined to comment on whether his party would contest elections as part of the ruling Mahayuti alliance.
Accommodation for Ticket Aspirants
In a move to address internal party concerns, Pawar assured that candidates who do not receive election tickets will be accommodated in other positions. He mentioned placements in the District Planning and Development Committee (DPDC) or other corporations as potential avenues.
This assurance aims to manage expectations and maintain unity within the party ranks ahead of crucial electoral battles, ensuring that all workers feel valued and recognized for their contributions.
The Deputy CM's visit and clear commitments are seen as a strategic outreach to consolidate support in a key area, emphasizing governance and project continuity under his new administrative roles.
