In Barpeta, Dipak Kumar Das of the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) secured a decisive victory, polling 94,086 votes. He defeated Independent candidate Gagan Chandra Haloi by a margin of 47,402 votes. Independent candidate Uddhab Chandra Das finished third with 3,670 votes, as the constituency delivered a clear mandate in favour of the AGP.

Barpeta (SC) is an assembly constituency in Assam's Barpeta district, part of the Barpeta Lok Sabha constituency. It includes Barpeta town and surrounding development blocks like Barpeta, Sarukhetri, and parts of Chenga, with a mix of urban and rural areas.
The constituency has about 279,331 residents (2011 census), with 78.18 per cent rural population, 8.82 per cent Scheduled Castes, and 1.74 per cent Scheduled Tribes; literacy is around 70 per cent. It lists 212,013 electors and 248 polling stations, with high turnout like 88.27 per cent in 2021.
Election History
In 2026, assembly elections, the BJP fielded Dipak Kumar Das (AGP). INC's Abdur Rahim Ahmed won in 2021 with 61.04 per cent vote share against the AGP's challenge. Prior cycles saw INC dominance amid multi-party contests.
Voter Turnout
The estimated voter turnout in Barpeta Assembly constituency of Assam was 87.06 per cent till 7pm, in comparison to 2021 which was 81.8 per cent. Assam’s 2026 assembly elections recorded a historic voter turnout of 85.9 per cent by evening on April 9, the highest since the state’s first polls in 1951, with large numbers of people turning out to vote despite rain. This marks the highest turnout in the state’s history, surpassing the previous highs of 84.67 per cent in 2016 and 82.04 per cent in 2021. According to Election Department data, women recorded a voter turnout of 86.5 per cent in the 2026 assembly elections, over a percentage point higher than men at 85.3 per cent. This also marks the highest-ever female participation in the state.
